Early Childhood
DeWitt has five licensed preschools, two of which also provide year-round childcare. There are many in-home daycare options as well.
K-12
The Central Community School District includes Ekstrand Elementary School (serving preschool to 3rd grade), Central Intermediate School (grades 4-6), Central Middle School (grades 7-8), and Central High School (grades 9-12). Serving a community of over 8,300 residents in Clinton County, the district encompasses the towns of Low Moor, Welton, Grand Mound, and DeWitt.
Residents of the Central Community School District take immense pride in the academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular achievements of their schools. Central is recognized as a premier district dedicated to meeting the individual and family needs of each student, ensuring they acquire essential concepts and skills in an engaging, comprehensive, and technology-enhanced learning environment. Notably, Central boasts an impressive graduation rate exceeding 99%, a dropout rate below 1%, and Iowa Assessment scores that set a benchmark for excellence, with over 90% of students demonstrating proficiency across various grade levels.
Renowned for its leadership in curriculum, instruction, and technological advancements, the Central Community School District prioritizes professional development for its teachers, equipping them with the skills necessary to provide outstanding educational experiences for all students. The district implements a 1:1 laptop program for students in grades 4-12, while preschool through 3rd-grade students enjoy a technology-rich environment featuring iPads and computers.
St. Joseph Catholic School offers a faith-based education for preschool through 8th grade, fostering a nurturing atmosphere with high academic standards that encourage students to learn, practice their faith, and reach their fullest potential. The average class size at St. Joseph School is 19 students, and its teachers bring an average of 22 years of experience. In addition to core subjects, St. Joseph School provides art, instrumental and vocal music, and physical education classes, along with extracurricular activities for middle school students. The school proudly celebrates its sesquicentennial anniversary during the 2014-2015 academic year.
